If you’re dreaming of relaxed, natural family photos that really capture your crew, the South Hams is full of gorgeous spots to explore. Here are a few of my favourite locations for family photography, all tried and tested with real families (and my own) who love the outdoors.
Each session I photograph is unique. I’ll always help you pick a location that fits your family’s vibe, whether that’s a quiet woodland walk or a windswept beach adventure.

Bantham Beach
Perfect for sandy toes and playful, carefree sessions. The soft light here at sunset is incredible, and little ones love running along the tide line, clambering over the rocks or running amongst the dunes.
South Milton Sands
Wide open and beautifully natural, this spot gives you beach, dunes, and even a café for a treat afterwards. I love the soft evening glow here for relaxed family shoots, especially in the quieter months.
Salcombe
For families who love the coast, Salcombe brings a mix of beaches, harbour views, and pastel seaside charm. It’s lively in summer but stunning year-round.
Woodleigh Woods
If you prefer trees and rivers over beaches, Loddiswell or Woodleigh offers shaded woodland paths and gentle riverside spots, ideal for quieter sessions with young children.
Hope Cove
A favourite for golden light, dramatic cliffs and fun rock pools. This is a great choice if you want a mix of adventure and coastal calm.
Thurlestone
Peaceful and open, Thurlestone’s Leasfoot and Yarmer beaches are perfect for relaxed, natural sessions. With soft sand and gentle waves, it’s a calm, timeless spot for coastal family photos.
